Whistle
for Duo Axis
Whistle is an exploration of flute multiphonics and motivic material derived from them, set within two forms from Celtic folk music: an air — a slow, song-like instrumental piece — and a slip jig, a dance tune in 9/8.
The closing “Slip Jig” elaborates the motives of the “Air” within a strictly metered form, and is intended “to be an addition to the living tradition of Celtic folk as much as it is a concert piece.”
